“Mandalorian” star, Gina Carano, Fired from Lucasfilm

This week after a series of inappropriate social media posts and tweets, Gina Carano was fired publicly through a statement by the head of Lucasflim. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable..” the company wrote. After going on vile social media posting spree, the star made all types of remarks from Jews of the Holocaust, to the U.S and climate change. These tweets were soon deleted, but many screenshots of the words were used to start the movement #FireGinaCarano. The movement quickly caught the attention of Disney and the “Mandalorian” studios. After the fan uproar, Disney was quick to put out a tweet saying, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”

This is not the first time Gina Carano went under fire for her social media posts, last november a series of old transphobic and controversial tweets resurfaced the media.

Disney is now clearly heading towards the right direction, but what will this all mean for the future of Star Wars entertainment? Gina’s character in the Mandalorian was set up to be an important one to the story. In fact her character, Cara Dune, was set to have her own spinoff Disney Plus show following the events of Mandalorian season 2.
