Coronavirus vs. Sports

Unfortunately with CoronaVirus cases climbing back up in California, high school sports seasons still have undecided start dates causing coaches and parents confusion. Santa Barbara county is currently in the purple tier for disease cases, meaning that schools must remain closed, making it difficult for school sports to begin competing.

On December 1st, the CIF, or California Interscholarship Federation, made a statement on the ongoing discussion of school sports. Their announcement included lots of important information for athletes about season championships and upcoming steps for the federation. CIF states, “This afternoon, the CIF State Office announced that all CIF State and/or CIF Regional Championships for Fall Sports have been cancelled.” This is big news for many and means more change for teams a part of the federation. CIF goes on to say, “Where we are today is not as important as where we are on December 15, 2020, January 4, 2021, or January 19, 2021.” These dates listed are days the federation has planned out for updating their procedures and planning future announcements.

Even though sports seem to be at a standstill as of now, CIF is hoping for a positive future along with giving teams the opportunity to compete.
