Emily Hinkle, a junior at Orcutt Academy, is thrilled to be a part of the new drama class. Hinkle sat down with the Oracle and shared how the revamped class is taking shape as she takes on the role of Stage Manager.

Last year, Mr. Shaw was the director of the Drama Club; however, this year the club has become a full class. Hinkle shares the largest benefit of the club becoming a class is that there will be multiple shows for the students and families to enjoy. Hinkle is excited to have Shaw lead the class, praising his ambitious ideas and positivity.

She’s looking forward to participating in the three shows the class is planning, and last week she was listed as the Stage Manager of the fall production.  Hinkle will be backstage, managing the play and making sure everything runs smoothly. Before the play begins, she will help plan the play, and help the cast work through the auditions and while they are rehearsing. During an average period, once the parts are assigned, everyone gets right to work, either memorizing their lines or working on the acting or working through the technical side of the theater.

Hinkle chose to be the stage manager, using her experience from her last two years in the drama club. She is looking forward to strengthening her skills, such as time management, organization, and being able to stay on top of deadlines. She also hopes to increase her ability to work with other people, an essential component to making a play work. Hinkle is excited for a great year of learning and new experiences.

Hinkle says club will soon announce dates for their upcoming production of “Sherlock Holmes and Siege of 221b”. Check back with the Oracle for more information.
