Orcutt Academy’s Boys Quartet recently won first place at one their singing competition in Sacramento. They returned with a trophy and are excited to share their victory with the school.

On the team there is Seth Pandah Bautista (singing baritone), Mason Oaks (singing bass), Justin Selken (singing lead), and Jacob Barnes (singing tenor). They practice before school, after school, and during school almost everyday. Their coaches or mentors are: Mrs.Nelson, Mr.Maurer, and Mrs.Kinzi.

Recently the team won first place in Sacramento in a barbershop competition. You have to be a certain quality before you go to the final round competition; since we have gone so many years they let us in. They don’t have competitions often; they have had only two other big audiences and a few smaller events. The two songs they sang at the competition were: “I Will Go Sailing No More” and “Crazy Little thing Called Love.”

I asked Seth (Pandah) what his goals were and he said, “To build self-confidence in my singing abilities and to learn some of the technical parts of singing.” I also talked to Mrs.Kinzi about their victory and she said, “I am incredibly proud of these boys! They gave up their time not only to be better singers, but to blend and work together as a team.”

Congratulations Seth, Mason, Justin, and Jacob! The Spartan Oracle wishes you the best of luck in the future.
