The beginning chaos of a new school year is dying down. Schedules are memorized, the first dance is over, and we have all returned to the monotony of daily life. However, to Mr. Carter, the rest of this year is full of opportunities and goals. In an interview, he shared what he expects to change over the 2015-16 school year, including new technology in the library.

Upon being asked what changes he expects, Mr. Carter explained that he wants to help OAHS students become more aware of the consequences of alcohol and drug use. He believes that communicating the risks to both students and teachers will lower the  number of Orcutt students using.

Carter also noted the school’s look is slowly improving. A new paint job completed this summer has improved the campus, as well an installation of  banners in the parking lot now greet visitors and families to our campus. Carter wants to be sure you know you are on Orcutt Academy’s campus, and this is one way he is accomplishing that.

image1In the library, Carter shared a new computer called Sprout is being set up for use. Technology has been a huge part of this school’s success in the past and Mr. Carter is interested in using this new technology to encourage students to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). One of the most noteworthy aspects of this new computer is its ability to scan and create virtual replicas of tangible objects. Mr. Carter wants to use technology to further the student’s knowledge outside of the classroom as well as within. To learn more about this program, click here.

I asked Mr. Carter what environment he wants new students and visitors to experience at Orcutt Academy High School. He replied he wants students to feel acceptance. He believes that OAHS should be a place, ¨where any student can be themselves¨. So, in the year ahead, let’s use communication and resources to create a comfortable and accepting environment for ourselves and our fellow Spartans.
