Not only do our cheerleaders entertain at games and rallies, they also represent our school by competing against teams across the State. On Saturday February 14, Orcutt Academy cheer team traveled to compete with Aloha Cheer Company in Visalia, California. Teams from all around the state showed the judges what they can do. Our girls won first place letting us get to Nationals in Long Beach.

Coach Katey and Dave Eckonrode along with Coach Megan Moore led our girls through the competition with Megan’s choreography and Katey and Dave’s help on stunts and tumbling.

The dance used, choreographed by Megan Moore, was originally performed at the homecoming game in October, but was revised greatly to fit the standards set for competition. Our cheerleaders have been working long and hard on this three-minute dance for about three months now, and it shows to have paid off.

They received first place in their division and second place out of all high schools. They are now advancing to the national competition in Long Beach, California in March.

“I am extremely proud of how my girls did and I couldn’t have ask for anything more from them,” Coach Katey Eckenrode says. For the next couple of months, the cheer team will be working vigorously to make their dance as flawless as possible for Nationals. With the help from their captains and coaches, they are prepared to win another award representing Orcutt Academy, ending their long and eventful season for the year.
