After 7 year drought Orcutt Academy boys basketball works their way into CIF playoffs

The boys varsity basketball team for Orcutt Academy fits their way into CIF playoffs after a 7 year drought looking to make history.

Last Tuesday the Orcutt Academy boys’ varsity basketball had their first CIF basketball playoff game last Tuesday against the number two seed Delano Highschool. The Spartans were placed into the playoffs ranked 15 out of 16 different teams. Senior Elijah Stephenson started the game off with the first 8 points ending the first quarter down by only 2 points. Through the first half of the game both teams went back and forth and went into halftime down by only 8 points. After half time Delano high pushed away expanding the lead to 25 after the third quarter. After the game the 11 seniors on the team got emotional and gave speeches to next year’s team.

“We played with a lot of heart and definitely left it all out there on the court last night,” says senior Camden Smith. Smith scored 8 points in the game and used excellent leadership skills as the starting point guard for the spartans. “This was a tough loss but I’m making sure to keep my head up for next season, we have a great group of guys to work with,”says sophomore Zach Lopez.

The Spartans had a great season and will hope to continue to work hard and qualify for CIF in future years.
