Top 10: Graduation trips for Californians

In the past few years, students have started to take trips with their friend group as a “post-graduation” vacation. This is a list of the best trips to take for students in California based on cost, travel, and time to plan.

  1. National park road trip – This trip is great for a group of campers on a budget. An annual pass to all national parks is only $80 and you won’t need to worry about hotel costs. Yosemite, Stanislaus national forest, and the Golden Gate national recreation area are all in a 200 mile radius so traveling won’t be too much of a hassle.
  2.  Amusement Park – Southern California has an incredible variety of amusement parks within 2 hours of each other, so this trip is the most convenient when it comes to traveling. The classic Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knott’s Berry Farm, and you can even include the Santa Monica pier as a cheaper option.
  3. CA beaches – The typical California trip is the exploration of the beautiful southern California beaches. The three you have to check out are Huntington, Venice, and Newport beach.
  4. Lake Tahoe – If you aren’t much of a beach bum then a trip to Lake Tahoe might be the way to go. You can enjoy a variety of ski resorts and hiking spots or you can just relax and chill on the lake.
  5. Catalina – A quick trip to Long Beach to take an hour ferry will get you to Catalina. You can visit the Catalina Island Museum, go scuba diving, rent a jet ski, or even go on an island-wide scavenger hunt.
  6. Sacramento – If you’re more of a history buff you can visit the home of the California State Capitol Museum. Sacramento is also home to Sutter’s Fort Historic State Park and the California State Railroad Museum.
  7. Hawaii – The most expensive trip but also a classic graduation trip would be Hawaii. Hawaii has so much to offer from great hiking trails, great food, and probably the best beaches in the world with some of the clearest water.
  8. San Francisco  – The perfect spot for bicyclists is of course San Francisco. You can rent a bike and stroll through downtown, take a tour of Alcatraz, or take an iconic instagram pic on by the Golden Gate bridge.
  9. Cruise – The trip with the least amount of stress from planning would have to be a cruise. A cruise from San Francisco to Alaska costs just $800 with meals and drinks included so you can fully enjoy the trip up the west coast.
  10. Los Angeles  – A flight into LAX puts you right into the heart of L.A.. After that you can take a bus tour through Beverly Hills, have a walk down Hollywood Boulevard, or have a shopping spree at The Grove shopping center.Jo
