Gym Short: Hayden Mathieu

17 year old Junior Hayden Mathieu takes charge with the Orcutt Academy varsity soccer team as new captain and All League competitor. He looks forward to a positive season even though last years seniors left.

Hayden Mathieu started playing soccer at the age of five and has fallen in love with the game ever since. Since his freshman year Mathieu has been a starter on the varsity squad at Orcutt Academy and  he now hopes to stand out as an individual and with the team as a whole. “All I want is for the team to learn from last year and do the best we possibly can,” Mathieu explains. His sophomore year, he was a runner up for All League, which is an award voted on by all the other coaches in the area who believe the athlete is most impactful on the field during the season.

Fellow teammate Brendan Real has a lot of hope in Mathieu’s new responsibility as the captain for the team and believes he will excel at this position. “Hayden as the captain will impact the team largely and help us stay motivated and work hard to try and earn a positive record.”
