Girls’ soccer team starts the season off on the right foot

The Orcutt Academy’s girls’ soccer team kicked off the season with their first win.  On Wednesday November 12th, the girls played their first scrimmage of the season in Santa Ynez.  They came away from the game with excitement, smiles, and their first win.

With enthusiasm in the air, the girls faced Dunn, and came out victorious. “For our first scrimmage this season I think our team did pretty well.  We were all a little nervous, but excited to be playing together,” Vanessa Lopez states. The girls’ soccer team will have a few more scrimmages, but will soon start playing official league games. It is obvious that the girls’ hard work and dedication will pay off this season.

The team was triumphant and won the scrimmage 2-0.  “Marianna set up Mecaelea Lopez who played a square pass to Elianna Kline for a very composed finish for a 1-0 half,” girls’ soccer coach, Mr. Speer, explained. Towards the end of the game, Marianna scored the second point with the help of senior Taylor Martinez. Coach Speer also mentioned, “We needed to work on our possession quite a bit and you could tell it was our first game.”  With such a great start to the season, this year is going to allow for major improvement and bonding between the players.

We can’t wait for their season to unfold and unleash new opportunities for these wonderful players. Good luck Spartans!
