Coach Tom Robb shows confidence going into girls basketball season

Going into his fourth season coaching girls basketball at Orcutt Academy, Coach Tom Robb expresses his excitement with this winter season starting. After a couple important wins in tournaments this past summer, he thinks this could be the season to go far into CIF.

Four years ago, Robb made the decision to come to Orcutt Academy for, “a chance to build a program”. Before taking the job at Orcutt he coached for three years at Pioneer Valley and has coached club basketball for many years. He noted the center of focus while he’s been with OA has been building up this program to the point where players want to come here to play basketball.

Coming off of an exceptional season last year where the team made CIF, Coach Robb made an addition to the coaching staff. The addition of Coach Ed Torres will make a huge difference because he coached for many years at St. Joseph where he took teams to two state championships.

Coach Robb also pointed out star players this season like the team captains: Mariah Lopez, Baylee Pinko and Vanessa Salazar. He also mentioned that “Giselle Calderon has had a fantastic summer and start of the season.” Over the summer, they notably took wins over San Luis Obispo High school and Righetti High school. Wins like this helped create a “family” atmosphere within the team that Coach Robb described, saying how both Varsity and JV “truly care about each other”.

Make sure to check out how Coach Robb is implementing his coaching styles in their first home game of the season on November 20th at 6:30pm against Paso Robles.
