Along with playing sousaphone for Orcutt Academy High School’s band, senior Trent Carroll is in a local punk rock band, previously known as Genocide Jack.

It’s not everyday that you hear about a fellow peer taking part in a band outside of school. Carroll is the bass guitarist in a local punk rock band that is yet to be named. “We currently do not have a name for the band,” Carroll shares, “… We are coming up with one, but the previous name was Genocide Jack.” All the band’s songs are originals.

Carroll has been in the band for 8 months, but has been playing guitar for 6 years. Having this love for music, Carroll joined the band because simply for fun. However, Carroll shares that being in a local band can be difficult when it comes to booking gigs. “There are not very many places to play in Santa Maria, most places are in [San Luis Obispo] or Santa Barbara,” Carroll explains.

Carroll plans on continuing to play music after high school, but only for fun. “I love creating music and meeting new people of all different walks of life,” Carroll shares, “All musicians I’ve met so far are either alcoholics or are odd people.”
