After 5 years of a winless golf career gap, many doubted that Tiger Woods would even be in contention. Tiger’s 2018 PGA season ended with his first win since he won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational back in 2013.

A majority of sports commentators did not think Tiger would be himself again. Week after week, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and many other young golfers have been dominating the PGA tour. With Tiger being 42 years old, almost doubling the age of these other winners, many doubted that he would be able to compete with their length off-the-tee.

Tiger proved these haters wrong after posting a -11, two-shot lead to win the Tour Championship, held from September 20th – September 23rd of this year.

With Tiger winning this tournament, he was also bumped up to second place in the Fed-Ex cup rankings, coming one spot off of 10 million dollars.

Since 2014, Tiger Woods had four major back surgeries, keeping him from play altogether. Not only did commentators doubt Tiger returning, he himself didn’t know if he would play another professional tournament. “Probably the low point was not knowing if I’d ever be able to live pain-free again,” Woods said. Woods went on to elaborate in a SportsCenter interview:

Am I going to be able to sit, stand, walk, lay down without feeling the pain that I was in. I just didn’t want to live that way. This is how the rest of my life is going to be? It’s going to be a tough rest of my life. And so, I was beyond playing. I couldn’t sit. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t lay down without feeling the pain in my back and my leg. That was a pretty low-point for a very long time.

This wasn’t Tigers first injury comeback. In 2008, Tiger dramatically won the US open after breaking his leg during the tournament. Without a doubt, this is the greatest golf comeback ever, if not the greatest in sports history. Tiger brings popularity to the golf world.

Whether you’re a golf fan or not, it is exciting to watch the huge crowds follow Tiger Woods.
