Finals week is changing, but the old schedule was superior, because it allowed more time students and teachers alike to prepare the difficult week.

This semester, finals will begin on Monday, June 4th and end Wednesday, June 6th. There will be no make-up day, as June 6th is the last day of school. Students should try their hardest to be at school for all of their finals, but sometimes life gets in the way. In the event a student misses a final for an valid reason, they have been able to re-do the missed test on the last day of school. Now, if a student misses a final, there isn’t much they can do. An understanding and not busy teacher may be able to arrange a time for a student to take it, but most teachers will be busy getting their grades in. Therefore, missing a final this semester will, in most cases, severely hurt a student’s grade.

Since finals begin on Monday, students will lose the final study day many have loved in the past. My previous teachers have used the Friday and following Monday before finals for studying. On Friday, they would continue to review essential material and encourage their students to study over the weekend. This way, students could come back on Monday for last minute questions they couldn’t find the answers to themselves.

The new schedule won’t ruin everything, but students will have seek out their teachers sooner, or email them the weekend prior to finals for a less efficient explanation.

The new finals week schedule isn’t the end of the world. But our old schedule gave teachers more time to ensure high scores on their tests as well as have more time to time. It gave students more time to study and ask difficult last minute questions.

What are your thoughts on the new schedule?

I agree. The new schedule should NOT be the new norm.
