Late start or early out?

Which is better? Sleeping in, or getting out of class early? Both sides have pros and cons, but which side does Orcutt Academy want?

A late start is nice because students can have more sleep time which is a blessing for kids in high school. According to TIME Magazine, high school students should get 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Most teens are getting 7 or less. Chronic sleep loss is linked to poor school performance and a higher risk of depressive symptoms. If teens wake up later in the day, they will be more alert in class and behind the wheel.

An early out also has its benefits. I personally think getting out early is helpful because some days you have a ton of homework and getting home late means your up late to finish it. This is especially true when students also have extra-curricular activities, and have less time for their homework.

According to Mitchell McMann, David Connable, and Noah Polley, an early out would be much better than a late start. But, according to Adelyn Gaither, Savannah Blouin and Carl Westover, a late start would be even better. I think we should have more late starts because when I attended Lakeview Junior High, every Wednesday was a late start and everyone in the school looked forward to those days. So, maybe in the future we will see more late starts, or maybe we will see more early outs.
