The academic awards rallies Orcutt Academy holds every year is more beneficial than pointless, and should therefore continue.

The academic rally is only 35 minutes, meaning we don’t lose too much school time. This small break also allows students to take a brief, mental-hiatus from their classes as well.

Our students here at OA work extremely hard, and they deserve recognition. At our most recent rally, over 200 juniors and seniors achieved a 4.0+ GPA, and the rally brings a lot of well-deserved attention to these students in such a short amount of time.

Furthermore, students who tend to slack off may want to try harder to get recognition like their classmates, which is achievable from the academic awards rally. Students may see their peers get the large applause, as well as the pins and patches that can pile up on their letterman jackets. Essentially, an awards rally can increase motivation for those who lack it academic-wise.

The rally not only helps the students, but helps the parents and teachers as well. OA teachers can watch their hard work pay off by watching their students excel and receive awards. Likewise, parents can see what all of their children’s hard work has lead up to as well.

Since the vast majority of students at Orcutt Academy are constantly working towards bettering their grades, both during and after school, they should be awarded through an academic awards rally.
