Valentine’s day is finally here! The first thing you want to avoid today is getting stuck in the “Netflix-and-takeout” situations, or worse, going to some overpriced, cheesy dinner place with candles, rose petals, nice tablecloths, etc. Therefore, whether you are coupled up, single or somewhere in between, just make sure your 2018 Valentine’s day is something you will remember and actually enjoy. Take a look at 10 interesting things you should try, places you should go, and experiences you should consider doing today. These suggestions go out to anyone.

  1. Roller skating. Since it’s Valentine’s day, the local Santa Maria roller rink will most likely be open today, and what a fascinating idea it would be to roller skate in a lovey-dovey-themed roller rink. This is a casual suggestion for all those soon-to-be couples that are still not that comfortable going out to nice steak dinner with each other.
  2. Do you get tired of Valentine’s day cards? Of course not. So go ahead and make your girl or guy the perfect card to remind them of your unending love for them. If you’re so lazy that you can’t spend 15 minutes even making a simple card for your date, then reconsider if being in a committed relationship is really worth it. Or just simply spam their phone with Valentine’s card memes. Like this one:
  3. To really impress your significant other, a good idea would be to recreate your first date. This requires a good memory and a bit of work to make things right, but it is well worth it. Walk down the same street, go watch the same movie and have some drinks from the same coffee shop you guys went to two and half years ago. Don’t be afraid to add some surprises into the mix too. Of course, this suggestion goes out to those couples who have been together for awhile.
  4. On a more adventures note, go camping! Go experience a mountain-getaway with your loved one, since this is the perfect opportunity to get away from the busy city or just get away from anyone you don’t like. There are plenty of good things to do while camping, like going on a hike, canoeing on the lake, and eating canned-beans while gazing at the stars. Don’t worry though, there is still going to be good food when you get back home…
  5. Don’t be afraid to live big for a day, even if you can’t quite afford the glamorous lifestyle. You can at least pretend for the night. Put on some fancy clothes and drive around the city in a rented sports car. You and your partner can jam to some JT and find the perfect place to watch the sunset. Make sure you both split the bill for the rental though, and don’t forget to consider the gas consumption as well.
  6. Yet if you and your date just want to relax, going to a spa would be the option. You will feel rejuvenated and refreshed as you spend quality time with each other. What’s better than relaxing with a masseuse giving you a quality foot massage?
  7. For you romantics, the perfect idea for a date is finding a lookout point along the Central Coast. Bring food for the picnic, a jukebox for the slow jams, and don’t forget your parkas. It’s the middle of February.
  8. Everyone loves a mystery, especially when it involves romance. When the evening comes and your date is ready, send them their first clue as to where their night is ending. That includes something along the lines of “happy Valentine’s day sweetie, wear red tonight” and include your first clue. When she/he arrives at the first location, Facetime them and proceed to lead them to their next clue. Eventually, you should surprise them with a cute dinner at one your favorite places together.
  9. An absolute classic idea is to show up at your significant other’s house in the bitter-cold morning with flowers and a box of chocolate. Starting the day out early is always a good idea, and the earlier you start the day off, the less likely your partner will be angry with you towards the end of the night.
  10. Our final idea in this Valentine’s day special is dedicated to all the single people out there. If you happen to be alone this Valentine’s day, you can gather up some of your friends and have a singles party. Just eat a lot of good food, watch movies, and make fun of all the pitiful and stressed-out couples out there.

Have fun Spartans, and don’t forget to treat your date right.
