On the court – Vanessa Lopez

This week, I sat down with junior Vanessa Lopez to ask her some questions about this year’s Orcutt Academy girls’ varsity basketball team. Lopez has been playing basketball at OA for three years, and has carried over her basketball success from junior high.

When asked about the level of cohesiveness found on the Spartan team, Lopez responded by first noting the team’s “ups and downs”, but then admired the team’s ability to stay on the same page both on and off the court. Lopez also stated how the OA girls’ basketball team is comfortable communicating with each other, which has helped them on the court. Despite finishing the season 2-12, Lopez commended coaches Tom and Allanah Robb, Tom Sullivan, and Erik Ramos for being “upfront” and dedicated to the team and the girls themselves.  One area of improvement Lopez highlighted for next year was improving the team’s teamwork and trust of each other.

While Lopez is saddened about the season coming to an end, she cherishes all of the fond memories she made her junior season and can’t wait for her senior campaign. Lopez stated how the team’s plan playing in their final game against Morro Bay High School was to go out with a win. However, against Morro Bay yesterday, February 8th, the OA girls’ basketball team lost 64-51.

Vanessa Lopez, along with the returning juniors and and underclassmen, plan on winning more games next year and continuing to have fun on the court!
