It seems to be that President Donald Trump’s recent nominee for a US District Court judge position was left puzzled by what people are calling basic legal questions.

According to reports by the Associated Press and CNN, former commissioner for the Federal Election Commission, Matthew Spencer Peterson, was questioned by GOP Senator John Kennedy about his past legal experienced prior to being a judicial nominee on Thursday, December 14th. To say the least, the responses given were not that promising.

Peterson stated in the court hearing that he had previously only worked on less than five depositions, which is a shockingly low number for someone who is being evaluated and considered for a high-end position such as US District Court judge. In addition, the former commissioner left the courtroom dazed after he “couldn’t remember” the last time he had read the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Peterson was also found stating that despite his minimal background in litigation, or legal action proceedings, that he is aware of “the challenge that would be aware” of him following his judicial approval.

In the aftermath of the awkward panel questioning, Twitter made it evident that the recent nominee by President Trump was not suitable for such a crucial judicial position.

This isn’t the first time one of President Trump’s nominees have been considered or actually dismissed by the White House. Prior to this incident, Brett Talley was dismissed as a nominee for a district judge in the state of Alabama, following the ABA’s unanimous approval that he was unqualified for the position in its entirety. Jeff Mateer, potentially having a district court position in Texas, was also withdrawn from consideration after he made aggressive and controversial remarks regarding transgender children.

Peterson is still up for review and appointment. The Oracle will bring you more information on this appointment when we return in the new year.
