Art could be defined as a medium of many instruments and ideas. Ideas not properly expressed by words often fill an artist’s canvas, opening up an entire new side of one’s thought process. I recently spoke with Josie Allen, who has picked up art recently, for all of its potential.
When Allen was asked as to why she got into art, she responded by saying that initially it just seemed like a fun, easy class to take, but as time went on, she found more and more of an attractiveness to the arts as a whole. In addition, Allen stated how the peacefulness and necessity of patience in the process intrigued her the most. Many mediums have been explored by Allen, but through trial and error she has found herself always falling back on watercolor and oil pastel. Allen says it’s the ability of these mediums to express colors in such intense ways that always seems to draw her back to using them. Allen hopes to keep pursuing art in her freetime in the near future, building on her skills and learning new techniques along the way.
Like any trait, perfection comes with nothing else but practice and exploration. As Allen keeps pursuing new mediums in art, she encourages others to do the same. You never truly know what will interest you until you’ve gotten your feet wet.
