Spartans, I am the goddess of wisdom, Athena. Please ask me questions and take heed of my advice.

Dear Athena,

I was thinking of joining the robotics team, but I’ve heard it’s a huge commitment and I’m not sure if I have the time.

Sincerely,

UnSure

Dear UnSure,

Join the team. The robotics team IS a big commitment, but the crazy hours you heard about only apply to the six weeks of build season. And while the team meets every day but Sunday during those six weeks, everybody gets two days off, so you would only have to be there for four days a week. Also, the team understands sometimes homework can pile up, and grades are very important to them. So if you can’t make it some days, the team understands; just make sure you let your lead or captain know. If you need extra help on homework, the team is even willing to spare someone to help you if you want to work on it in Fredriks’ room. If you have any D´s or F’s they even require you to stay home so you can try and bring your grade up. During the rest of the year, including training and after season, the team meets a lot less. For example, during training they only meet once or twice a week. You can definitely learn a lot from the team but if you’re still unsure that you don’t have enough time, then the decisions up to you.

Blessings,

Athena

Dear Athena,

I was thinking of asking someone to the next dance, but I’m scared they´ll say no. I didn’t go to Homecoming, so maybe I should just sit out.

Sincerely,

Scared_of_rejection

Dear Scared_of_rejection,

You should ask them. If you don’t, you’ll always regret it and be left wondering what they would’ve said. If they do reject you then at least you’ll know where you stand and can move on instead of continuing to pine over someone who doesn’t see you the same way. If they do say yes, you’ll get to go to the dance with them! I know it’s scary, but you have to overcome your fears. It’s better to find out where you stand sooner rather than later, and live with no regrets. Still, the final decision is always up to you.

Blessings,

Athena
