Many students were tired of the traditional physical education; running laps and playing games was getting extremely uninteresting. They wanted something new. As a result, a new first period weights class was developed this year, taught by Mr. Josh Bennett.

Students seeking an alternative to the traditional P.E. class were not willing or able to show up early enough to join the current zero period weights class for the football players, so a second class was added. Since the integration of the new first period weights class, many students were eager to join. Any student who needs P.E. credit or wants to learn how to properly lift is able to join the class, regardless of sport.

An average weights period does not begin with jumping on the nearest equipment and doing whatever you please. Mr. Bennett teaches his students how to use utilize their bodies and muscles. He shows students how to improve the mobility of the joints, and move the body properly. This would include the ability to correctly move arms, knees and hips, and perform a proper squat. Mr. Bennett also emphasizes technique and form over weight, for improper technique can lead to injury, and awful form with heavy weight is a recipe for horrible injury.

When learning any skill, the effort determines the result. Bennett believes a good attitude is the key to improvement and being successful is his class. If you are interested in the course, see Mr. Bennett and check out what they are up to through the term.
