Saturday, March 11th, Orcutt Academy’s Cheer team went to Monrovia, California to compete in a cheer competition. The team earned first place in their division, once again proving their amazing talent and teamwork.
In the past, Orcutt Academy’s Cheer team has done phenomenally in their division. They maintained their champion status at this past weekend’s competition. They competed against three other teams, and took first place, earning an 89 out of 100 possible points.
When asked about her opinion of the Cheerleaders’ performance last Sunday, Kyla Hinkle says, “The team really gave it their all at this competition, and it definitely paid off. I couldn’t be more proud of my team. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to perform with the rest of the team due to my recent surgery, but I’m glad I got to be there for my team’s last competition of my senior year.” Kyla tore her ACL, her MCL, and her meniscus while tumbling. She recently underwent a full ACL and meniscus reconstruction which inhibited her ability to compete for the rest of the season.
Following the competition, the Cheer Team had their banquet and celebrated all of this season’s successes. In addition, Senior Kyla Hinkle was awarded a $500 scholarship for cheering after being voted by her teammates Most Valuable Player, and her coaches gave her the annual Outstanding Spartan Cheerleader Award which came with a plaque and the $500 from cheer coach Katey Eckenrode.
