This weekend, the OAHS cheer team competed at Jamz Cheer Competition in Pomona, California. The girls came first in their division and qualified for Nationals.
On Saturday, February 4, the cheerleaders drove down to the Fairplex in Pomona for their second cheer competition of the season. This was the School and Youth State Championship, and the team belongs to the Level 2 Junior Pom division.
Although the the cheer team has gone to Championships before, this was their first competition without a spring floor, which made tumbling and jumps harder. When asked about their routine, captain Katie Hartjen answered; “We learn it at the beginning of the year and do it for homecoming and then compete with that routine at every competition.”
That is great, except for one problem. Minutes before the competition, Katie Costello injured her shoulder while warming up. “We changed the whole entire routine, right before we went on and so we were really nervous, “said captain Brittany Maxwell. “But, we went on stage and everything went well.”
Despite the flooring and injury, the cheer team still placed first in their division and qualified for Nationals. We at the Spartan Oracle hope the Cheer team does extremely well and stays healthy!
