The boys on the Orcutt Academy Varsity Basketball team did an outstanding job of upping their game from last year and working together to create a memorable season. I sat down with senior Mitch Carpenter to find out his thoughts and best moments of the season.
“We went from winning two games last year to eight this year,” he says. “It was a great way to end my career with the guys I played with.” When it came down to who the MVP was, Mitch couldn’t decide between Louie Ramos and Marc Pyle. “Marc gave us the points and the scoring, and Louie gave us the leadership and a stay-positive attitude.” As they grew as a team, Mitch revealed to me that he made some great relationships, best friends, and that when you connect as a team, the wins come to you. We then started discussing what his best moments were. “ I got to hit the buzzer beater against Morro Bay, and going to Santa Clarita and hanging out with my team to build relationships I will probably have for the rest of my life.”
I lastly wanted to find out what his final words and thank you’s to his coach (John Dellarmo) would be. He simply said he was the best coach he had ever had. “He is always positive and can joke around yet he is not too laid back. He is one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever had.”
Overall, the season had gone extremely well for Mitch and the rest of the boys on the team. Congratulations to Orcutt Academy Varsity Boys Basketball for making it even further and building an extraordinary team!
